The image of melting dials is familiar to everyone, but not everyone will remember the detailed description of Salvador Dali's painting "The Persistence of Memory", and they will not even look closely at some important elements. Art historians who collected references, thanks to this canvas, were able to conduct a deeper analysis of the rest of the works of the famous surrealist. The laconic Dali, after creating his “Soft Watches”, spoke about them quite often, recalled the history of creation in his autobiography, explained the meaning of the elements in correspondence, records. This attitude towards a miniature work completed in just two hours is an important factor that contributed to its popularity. The work presented in The Persistence of Memory explores many facets of remembrance, including commemorative pieces that celebrate past guardians and caregivers, painting series that highlight the significance of food to cultural memory, profound childhood recollections reproduced on canvas, images of places or journeys that provoke nostalgia, explorations of the purpose of collective memory, and work that recalls experiences of personal growth and loss. Asked to explore the concepts of memory and nostalgia, the teens responded in myriad forms including painting, mixed-media pieces, installations, and video work. Entitled The Persistence of Memory, this thematic group exhibition features work by 23 teen artists from the 2018-19 CTC cohort.
